Hello everyone!

I'm not new to ViaCAD but I'm a simple hobbyist and not a professional so I need help!

I've been using ViaCAD V5 since 2010 on my old computer with Vista without any problem whatsoever but my faithful friend died not to long ago and now I'm with a new computer using Windows 8.1!

I've reinstalled my ViaCAD program without ANY problem except... well better you see what I'm talking about 'cause it might take to long and I might not explain properly!

Here is the video of my problem: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=...3pQ&feature=youtu.be

I've asked numerous people in my entourage and did many searches on Google without success! This is my first post here so be gentle with the new guy! Not an expert! ;)

Thanks for all your help!

First, welcome to the forum! Great to hear you have been able to use V5 for such a long time.

>>ViaCAD V5

ViaCAD v5 was created and tested before Windows 8. With Windows 8, Microsoft made significant changes with the way you combine 2D graphics with 3D. For example, ViaCAD draws the logicursor and other rubber banding effects in 2D which are then composited on top of a 3D OpenGL window. Windows 8 does not like this at all, requiring some rewrites of the code.

Your ViaCAD v5 will not run gracefully on Windows 8. To run ViaCAD on this OS, you will need to consider upgrading to a current version.

Regards

Tim

Thanks Tim for the welcome!

Yes ViaCAD V5 has been a great companion for a novice like me and I was able to create some great/cool stuff including an Astromech ( R2-D2 type robot ) among other things!

So if I read this right by simply upgrading my ViaCAD 2D/3D V5 to the current one, witch I believe is ViaCAD 2D/3D V9, it should be no problem?

The new version works well with Windows 8 or 8.1?
