Is the push/pull tool supposed to be able to snap? I'm trying to move the "face on" surface to match up to another surface on the left. It doesn't appear to snap to anything regardless of the snap options. Any suggestions?

Use the normal extrude tool and select "to object" option.

HI Scott

Try turning on "Face Snapping" in the Inspector Gripper settings. It is off by default.

The "face snapping" checkbox didn't seem to change anything.

No matter what I do, the push pull tool doesn't snap. This can be seen by creating two blocks of two different heights. Then go back to one of the blocks with the push/pull tool and select a face of the block to make them the same height. I'd expect the face of the block to be able to snap to the other face, edge, or vertex. Just like the inferencing that happens when moving an object. I.e. Moving a block next to another block by selecting the corner of one to line up to the corner of a second block.

hi,

for a work-around you can use the tool "move face" to get a similar result. choose "move face", next select the face of your solid and specify two points for move. when specifiying the "two points", normal snapping tools will work.

Hi Scott
I made a video using a couple of blocks.

http://www.csi-concepts.com/Demo/videos/faceSnap.mp4

The video also shows using the Gripper (instead of Push/Pull). Does the issue also happen within the Gripper?

Maybe it's an issue with the specific geometry you are using. If you want to send me the file, I can update the movie for your specific case.

There is one important piece in the video I was not aware of. What I didn't know is when "face snapping" is checked, the push pull will highlight the snap to face with a red line highlight. I didn't notice the redlines.

But to my original question, I was trying to snap the face to other features, such as endpoints, vertexes, etc. It kind of sounds like the Push-Pull feature is limited to face snapping, but not the features in LogiCursor? Or is there something else that I'm missing?

Yes. I need a way to integrate the planar face movements into position snapping. Maybe a wakeup point (endpoint, vertex) in face plane triggers a snap.

Ok. Kind of glad I'm not missing something. :) Sounds like a great update to a version 9 update. :)

Yes that is a good tip until I get something integrated into push/pull. The move tool uses two snap points to determine the move distance.

Thank you for posting that tip. Yes, I've used the 2pt move face. I just upgraded to version 9 because of the Push/Pull feature. I wanted to gain familiarity with it's usage because I use it a lot in Sketchup. I was expecting ViaCad to have about the same features in it's usage, but was surprised ViaCad didn't have the same snap features. I just wanted to make sure I wasn't missing anything in the documentation before going down the workaround path.

I'll check out SketchUp face snapping, thanks for the heads up.

Hi Tim. I wonder if you were able to look into have the snap feature to be able to infer from an object. This video has some examples starting at the 2:00 mark. Maybe this can be an update to version 9? :)
