hi all,
i have to transfer a model from viacad pro 8 (mac) to a user who works with sketchup pro (mac or pc). skp provides dwg, 3ds, dae import formats.

my model is mostly made of solids with a few simple holes, not very complicated and without dimensions. i tried dwg, but the results are not perfect so far, such as could not snap to the center of a hole in skp.
anybody have a few tips for me?

The best format is probably DXF/DWG R12 because it represents facet geometry plus attributes (layers, colors, names,etc).

R12 was before AutoCAD moved to precision formats so I internally convert precise data to facets. Later DWG versions are based on a derived version of ACIS. If you use a newer format IE DWG 2013, ViaCAD embeds ACIS data containing analytics and NURBs for precise data sharing with AutoCAD.

SketchUp being a facet based modeler does not know how to process the data except as facets.

if you wanna have control over faceting incl. a visual feedback, you may want do the meshing prior an export to the DXF/DWG format (regardless of used version) by using "Edit > Change Object Type... > Mesh...".
