The price is right at $150, but details on http://www.simlab-soft.com website are kind of sketchy. The thing that is very appealing is that it supports STEP import so you never have to worry about facets.

I have been looking closely at http://octanerender.com/ which is GPU based, creates incredible results very fast and until it gets out of beta is 99Euro.
Octane will only work on an Nvidia GPU as it is programed in Cuda, but like SimLab is cross platform Mac, Win, Linux.
