HI All,

Just getting started and have a question....

I there a way to rotate a shape or object around a line, rather than a point? I often end up with a rotation in a plane I didn't intend when I use the rotate tool as I understand it now.

Thanks,
markb

Hi, Mark

Are you rotating 2d or 3d items?
Have you tried the rotate one point and in the top the drop down box has the arbitrary axis option?

I think this might work...

Draw a line along the axis around which you want to orbit.

Middle-click your mouse near the axis line and pan left or right or even diagonally. I played with it last night/this AM, and realized there is sooo much more to serendipitously (and formally) learn about ViaCAD.

p.s. have to agree....still loads to learn, although that is not surprising in my case...I think the biggest weakness Viacad2d/3d is lack of a "....for Dummies" book! I know there are some tutorials, but a systematic tutorial series that starts simple and builds up is (to my mind) the key to a user base that can make this amazing software shine!
