Hi All,

Is there any way to get a solids position in 3D space? Many of the objects such as slab primitive don't show it position after being selected by the selection tool. If there is a way by selecting the object and getting it's position consistently I've yet to find it and this has been one of my major annoyances with VC3D. As and extension to getting an object's position being able to change it numerically would be great!

Thanks!
Toby

only a primative , I think

each object would need a local axis to measure to ! ?

This may be possible if you group an item - I think it then has an absolute coordinate ?

Hi Toby,

After selecting the solid/object, go to the "Verify" drop down menu and select "XYZ", that will bring up a popup (see pic). You can then left click an objects endpoint/midpoint etc by snapping, which will give back the xyz position of that point.

Thanks Steve! That feature had eluded me. It seems to work for points in space not for the whole object or group of objects. I'd love to have a info window that shows the location of the object whether it's determined by the the objects bounding box center (BBC) or center of gravity (COG), user definable, etc.. I tend to think that ACIS solid system continuously calculates this info, BBC and/or COG, anyway so displaying it should not be much of a problem. May be wrong about ACIS, Tim would know. My two cents...

Hi Toby

You can get a point to display at a single objects cog by using the verify->> properties check the cog in the create section. I believe this also works for groups of objects but you have to define a material in the drop down menu before the cog point will show for a group of selected objects (Tim is this correct?) It will place a cog point for each object and also a point (diamond shape) for a group of selected objects cog point.
