Tim,

I have been playing around with the guide skin surfaces, although I am getting better results, I am finding that when these surfaces are stitched to solid there are problems, particularly with shelling.

I am posting a very simplistic example:-

Pic 01 shows 4 cross sections on 4 guides, pic 01b shows the resulting surface. I then stitch the surface to solid, then attempt to make shell on the top face, that gives me the popup error shown in pic 02.
I exported this solid as "Acis sat" to SC, which promptly made shell pic03, I imported that Acis file back into VC pro, but when shell was attempted on the top face I was given error shown in pic04.

I have attached the model and sat file (in zip file)

Steve,

Surfaces are very poor!. Increase density in "U" to 40 and see the wavy surface it has built (one side only) ?. Replace the face you want to open with a planar cover and it will shell no problem ;)

I have to admitt this is the reason I surface in Rhino coz VC is bloody hard work!:(

Paul,

There is certainly something amiss with the guide skin surfaces.
I did have high hopes with what was indicated, in that multiple cross sections on multiple guides can be used. But when badly created surfaces are produced, well, then there is little point in their use.

From some of the surfaces produced on some of my models, where a vertical surface was expected, the surface bulges and distorts.

Lets see if Tim gets around to having a look.

I have been seeing this quite a lot lately where copies(the undo) of the model stack up on top of each other. More so while looking at the guide skin surfaces.

These popups are quite endless. In the last 3 weeks or so I have had 35 crashes/lock ups, and must be over an hundred popups for various "Acis errors"

If I had been using Version 5 of this software, I would not now be using version 6.

Regards,

I have just looked at creating this solid in Shark using the Guide skin solid. This produced the same result/problem.
