Gaps and overlaps in profiles

These are old issues .. we've been wishing for a smarter solution for some time !

The problems include :

- if there's an extra overlapping item in the profile .. it's spotted when you make a cover surf .. but you don't get to see where it is : ( .. or least it's so quick .. you can't see it's location

- if there's a gap and an overlapping curve .. when you make a cover surf .. it reports only 'overlapping curve', not the other fault

- if there's a gap .. you get to see where it is .. but it's usually behind the warning dialog - that's so unhelpful !

- if it's not behind the warning dialog, it flickers on so quickly, you need slow motion photography to capture it .. if the geometry's complex .. you just cant see the indicators anyway. (The change direction arrows flick to quickly too .. please give me minimum one second !)

- if there's an overlap, a solid extrude will often still work but not a cover surface .. why ?

Please also .. when a solid extrude or lathe is deleted (though it doesn't happen with a cover surface) .... the 'profile' relationship remains in the feature tree .. it shouldn't and needs correcting ! It stuffs things up down the line !

I agree with Jol.

A long time ago, in Hache-lard soft there was a convenient command "remove overlaps in geometry".
That was ice ages.
Today we could have a nice "verify" menu command : "Show gaps and overlaps", working for any profile, surfaces or solids:)
With a simple threshold setting we could repair...

Nice idea to put it in the verify menu ..

It should be ...

... but I think it could be invoked automatically too .. so that if you're making something requiring a profile .. it checks through the selected data for gaps, overlaps and also planar-ness if necessary

This is definitely something we want to look into. Either leaving the gap indications up longer or until the user clicks them off or something that allows you to automatically check with a click.

Putting a button in the verify menu is a great idea. I will pass this onto our team for attention.

FYI,

The Connect tool will connect multiple curves (more than 2, as in a profile) within a tolerance.
