Like so many other CAD apps out there, I think we should have a tape measure button !

I'd use it heaps .. and I think it would benefit new users - who'd be unlikely to look under Verify

Perhaps you could stick it in there, next to the eye dropper tool ?

The icon is done - it's ready & waiting in the V3 set

Great idea, Jol! I use the Verify command a lot as well! The tape measure will save a lot of mouse clicks. I'll be good if it can be a tear off menu that stays open, instead of something that closes everytime you click OK. I've seen some beginners using the dimension tool to check for dimensions instead of using Verify.

while we're at it:

A really nice addition would be an option to keep the black line shown in the verify/minimum distance dialogue as an actual drawing element.
(Just like there is an option to keep the interference as a solid in the verify/interference dialogue)
It has been requested several times already, I know....

Yes, you should see this enhancement in a future version as we need it for a contract item as well.

. . . Or just create a shortcut for Verify / Distance / Point to Point.

I have been using ` which is the key above the tab key on my keyboard for years. Its as instinctive and easy to use as changing work plane or zooming. I also have my mouse scroll wheel button set to the select tool so that I don't constantly have to go to the tool bar.

Personally I like to use as many keyboard shortcuts as possible and it minimizes mousing away from the model space, minimizes distractions and is just plain faster.

Which brings me to an old, old request. A better shortcut manager that lets us use modifiers in user shortcuts like command, option and control. It cant be that hard to do, or every other program I use would be non-functional. Please, please, please Tim could we get this into the next release or are we going to have to wait for V10 for this basic interface improvement ?

One other request.

Allow the text in the verify distance window to be selectable (as it was in previous versions) so that it can be pasted into other items.
