General thought about the helpfulness of having an ever present Drafting Assistant

When I'm skinning surfaces .. which I might do over and over again .. the drafting assistant is actually getting in my way

(Similar issues with other tools)

Q: When I am simply picking a series of curves or surfaces as the input to an ACIS proceedure .. is there a case for temporarily turning some of this automatic Align x, ALign y, snap to a point, snap to the origin stuff off

It's just a question !

If you are picking curves, snaps should be off. They should only be on if you are specifying a location.

If you've got some steps that turn on snaps while picking, let me know and I will debug.

I'm afraid I'm way too lazy to turn snaps on and off all the time - there are just too many things to think about when you're designing something.

I'm sure I'm not the only one ... and I'd be interested in what other users do (not what they 'should' do).

What I'm saying - and I hear you agreeing - is that there's no reason for snaps to be active whilst selecting !

What I'm saying - is - let's help out the user and temporarily turn them off .. until the selection process is over.

Yes, that is what is is supposed to do now. If you are prompted to select an object, snaps should be off internally by the program. They should only be on if you are being asked to specify a location. The tool cursor should also indicate (arrow or cross hair) if it is activated.

If you have some steps where snaps are on but there is an arrow tool cursor displayed (or its asking you to pick an object not a location), we've got a bug.

If you are skinning surfaces, it should not be on so I'm wondering if you did an instream command (like a key shortcut) of some sort that turned on snaps but did not turn it back off.

I'm just playing now

I tend to zoom in and out (2 finger zoom on my tackpad) - and spacebar pan

I dont think I use any other tools instream - so this will likely pop up again.

I'm on CAD full time for the next few days - so I hope I can make some good input !

[Whilst you're there Tim - I am looking for an exploded animation of a TV remote control I did with CU (when you first implemented the animation some years ago). I cant find it - do you have a copy by any chance ? It could also be on the old forum if that's still active) Reason I ask is that a few peolpe have voiced some frustration - getting to grips with the ani tools - and I thought it'd be good to dig some of the old stuRf out if I can find it]

Yup, just the resulting movie though, no cu file. Sending your way via private email.

Yep - Tim .. It's just as you said

I think I found one (.. I suspect there are a few of these - so I'll keep my eyes peeled)

If I'm skinning (with or without guides) .. and I use the Viewball - instream - when I come back to the model .. I have my unwanted assistant)

Hope you can repeat
