I know you can extrude a line with the extrude surface tool, but is there a way that the push-pull tool can also be used in the same manner?

I think hover-selecting the line and dragging in one direction to the desired length would be easier for design-exploration; due to only one one operation..

Can this be done? Thanks.

logically, yes. But it doesn't do it with the push-pull yet. You can only do a closed perimeter but that makes a solid.

thanks I think 3ds max does this. Would be nice if the push/pull tool has more advanced functions built into it. I love using it.

And, when you have a 30mb size file that is chock full of all sorts of geometry and constructions, avoid hitting the Push-Pull tool. Sometimes, I inadvertently hit it and regret it because Cancel either takes forever to appear, or Cancel takes forever to actually cancel and back me out. So, it makes me wish I remove that from the torn-off tool bar, or in a config file prevent it from working when I open files greater than "X Megabites". Sometimes, I've just given up and task-killed the whole app.

For small things, like prototyping phones and simple-geometry cityscapes, Push-Pull is fantastic, until it "forgets" the different colors of faces. I wish it would not do that. I wish it would respect face coloring. I have Shark LT, v8.

Still, Push-Pull is awesome for quick and dirty or simple solids extrusions. Not great to hit when working on my 500'+ ship with hundreds of layers, thousands of curves, and hundreds of surfaces and solids.

Cheers!
