Maybe this is a bug or maybe not. When i have a closed polygon on the grid and try to extrude it with the slab primitive tool it behaves funny. In the prompt i can input 1 (inch) and then depending on which direction i move around the polygon selecting points it will either extrude the shape above or below the grid. When i selecting the points moving clockwise the shape is extruded upwards and when i move counterclockwise it is extruded below the grid even though the numeric input is a positive value.

To extrude a 2D polygon you do not use the primative tools at all. You want to use the extrude solid tools

As for the primitive tools, it is working as designed.

I might have gotten the name of tool wrong. It is the tools whos icon is a blue volume with several points in red. Is the slab primitive tool supposed to behave in the way i described? By moving clockwise or counterclockwise, the direction of the extrusion is changed?

Yes the direction of slab extrusion is determined by the clockwise or counterclockwise direction of the points relative to the work plane normal.

After you create the slab, you can change the sign of the height to get it to extrude the other direction.
