When I export "selected only" element with either Velom, Cowblat, CU, Shark, I get all the empty layers exported in the file...

--> This is extremely bad for confidentiality : the layer names and file organization may give high level of information about what I'm working on to the people receiving the file.

Just suppose your unexported layers are named "version A for customer XX"; "version B for customer YY""...

Or "Patent pending elements"...

Or "Crappy version for customer ZZ"...

What's more : the preview on the desktop is showing ALL the element present on the screen! (not only the one you want to export).

This might be a variation:

Can it be made possible to fence select objects, then save-as the selected objects to their own layers, but NOT close the source/origin, just do a save-as in the background or as a newly-opened file?

This would be an immense time saver, as i envision and hope this would save the individual elements/objects on their proper layers. Simply copying and pasting just lands them all on one layer. Trimming away everything could take some time, and incurs the risk that "save" might be hit instead of "save-as"... (my logic might be faulty here...)

This could be aided by a dialog/popup asking to customize the action, or be queried each time the routine is run.
