Sometimes it would be useful if there was an automated way of making a surface look like broken stone or waves. Now it's a bit hard, inserting knots on a surface and then move them.

Not what you do very often, but it would be nice when textures isn't good enough.

Using a height map of arbitrary photos might do what you want. I occasionally use one called ZSurf4, it makes an IGES surface that can be used to trim a solid. Alternatively, you could experiment with the Spline import. Tim's posted a tutorial elsewhere on the forums, you can make a parametrised set of pattern surfaces.
