Hey Gang!

I need feedback on how to render to a file with distant light as seen in picture 1-3. The render on my screen looks good with the distant light present. Notice that the profile of the ball is more visible. However, when I do a render to file, the render of the object appears without the light. You can tell as the profile of the ball is not visible. See picture 1-4.

Any takers? Thank you.

Your light is still there for the render to file. But I don't know why, Render to File is every times darker than the preview screen! Change the luminosity in PhotoShop and you will see something like your preview.

I'm resorting to the Grab program to take a snapshot of the preview when I have distant light until I figure out or the program gets improved. I don't have Photoshop.

Try using Preview in your Mac . Tools>Adjust Color... that and adjust Size can be useful and easier than Photoshop for many things.
