once again I am painfully grappling with dimensions in 2D.
Ok I figured out that perhaps I could make a new standard by selecting a correctly configured dimension, creating a new standard in standards layout from the correct one ,select scale values with text and named it.
However that does not seem to work and now (after a restart) I cannot delete my newly created (but not working) standard.
How do I delete a user created standard in this case called "ISO scale to text"?

oh the element that did not work? it appeared to be applying excessive scaling.

I am trying for readable dimesions on architectural drawings at 1:50, if anyone has something I could drop into my program that would be lovely, meanwhile I am using the eyedropper tool after one of Jols tips on the subject , not having known of its existence before (hidden behind the select deep tool which I never need to use).
