cgn,

>>some comment on what is diferent from the concepts series,
>>nurb modeling software on the past.

ViaCAD has skins, covers, nets, plus variations on extrudes and sweeps. All surface types based on low level NURBs definitions from ACIS. The surfaces are associative to other curves or surfaces and many have parametric values to control other shape aspects. A detailed listing of surface creation and utilities is on the data sheet at:

http://www.punchcad.com/products/ViaCADDataSheet.pdf

Relative to Concepts 3D and Concepts Unlimited, it does not have the guide curve options, capping and filling, g1/g2 matching, deforming, or surface analysis tools.

Does ViaCAD include Fact export like CU?
There are lots of EIAS users in need of a good basic modeler.

Yes, ViaCAD, Concepts 3D, and CU all import/export FACT files.

Thanks Tim.
I just posted your news on the CGTalk ElectricImage forum.

There is a lot of interest in modeling apps for use with EI since Modeler was dropped. Lots of interest in Concepts, and now ViaCAD.

I am one of those who is using EIM and was disappointed at it's demise.

I am very interested in ViaCad and if it does what I hope it does will be the deal/steal of the decade!

How are it's fillets and bevels? If it has them are they still very ACIS picky and finicky or has ACIS been refined to accept less than perfect approaches in modeling?

Who in Canada carries the product?

Thanks.

Hi Paul,
Concepts Unlimited has great rounding.
Modeler was V4 Acis.
Concepts (and I suppose ViaCAD) is on v16. Lots of improvement there.

Much less finicky than EI Modeler, and generally better than formZ (and formZ's rounding tool is pretty good!)

If the rounding/beveling is the same as CU it is one of the best rounding tools in any piece of 3D software available.
