I would like to see the tape measure tool become planar with the "option" or "control" key modifier.

Too many times I am getting measurements that are useless because they are measuring diagonals in space away from the viewer. So I can't really trust the numbers.

As a matter of fact perhaps the modifier should be used when the measurement is not planar!

Hi Art (Senior Member)

Yep - Good thinking .. this would be a great addition

Of course you can get this (non-depth) data from the verify distance box .. but it WOULD be a great option key for the fast measure tool !!

Yes this happened to myself as well. I'm not sure how- but it is there

Perhaps it is because of the tutorials I provided? Tim?

100 posts? Are you sure? Because there are others here with near 100 posts who are still only 'members'- not even junior members.

But "verify distance" does not tell you where those measurements are from.

In a couple of years I hope to be asking for an extension of the "interference tool" that would should me everything closer than a specified distance.

Before the tape measure was invented I wanted a readout of dimensions measured (THEY are planar); so often I have to zoom out to read the numbers. Right now what we get is "#" what I need is a number.

Thanks,

Tim,

Could this be put on the "long list" . I do not find this tool that useful now and I could use it daily. The alternative would be to have a readout of what a dimension (which IS planar) reads so I don't have to zoom out.

Art,

I could put in an option key to modify the behavior. When you mean planar do you mean in the work plane or viewing plane?

Great,

I never thought of the work plane, that would be a great option. But, to me, that is second to the view plane. Both would be great.

Thanks!
