If I export a binary STL file, there is a warning when I open it in other programs. It says something like 'This file has the wrong length it may be corrupt'

Also it there any way to put my own defaults in to the STL export form? or even have the form remember the last set of values?

Bill, make sure that your units (ie mm) are set the same for all applications. Problems usually arise if one app is set for inches, whereas the other is set for mm's etc

Good luck!

The app I am using (topescope) is a STL viewer/repairer. It doesn't specify units

Do you get this message if you export a simple block?

Does it read it in, but gives you a warning?

Ah yes Topescope. No units? That's like Cheetah3D. Utter madness if you ask me. You need to specify units- it's so important. Have you purchased Topescope, because if you haven't, ViaCAD makes a superb STL viewer (and the rest!) :D

Simple meshes don't give the warning. I've never had any of the ones that do give the warning fail to read the file.

Topescope is not at all like Cheetah, nor does it need to specify units.

Sorry, but where are the commands to make ViaCad correct reversed normals, remove extra faces, repair holes and generally make meshes manifold?

It might be due to very small facets (near zero area). We've seen this with some STL verification/repair programs.

You might want to try putting in an aspect ratio of 2 in the stl dialog box and see if that makes a difference. This reduces small sliver facets.

Thanks Tim, I'll try that. My STLs tend to have a lot of very small triangles.

Yes I know Topescope is nothing like C3D in that aspect. Now I understand what you need it for- that's fine, but I very much come from the manufacturing background (not virtual) :)
