Not long ago Spatial announced they would stop support for this format claiming it was not really "open".

That was an interesting read. Sounds like a very powerful file format implementation.

When i "googled" for "JT Format Visualization format competitors" i got:

I hate the JT format. The way it is used here in the auto industry the models are very lightweight, holding little more than facet data. You can't do anything with it. It's certainly not a CAD model as we know it.
