.. just like toast : )

Well, maybe not.

What machine is it ?

The new card would need to be compatible with both your machine and your OS ..

.. and you would need to have drivers. Other than that - I would say pretty straight forward - but maybe somebody else could chime in !?

I'm guessing that you are speaking of a desktop, in which case it is pretty easy to do, and instructions are included, and probably installation videos are available on line via search.

Generally, you have to remove the existing card, usually one screw retaining it in the slot at the back of the chassis, and then a couple of levers on the cardedge socket have to be pushed to eject the old card. There may be a separate power connector to undo.

Installation is the reverse.

dump it and buy something new, don't invest in this lame system (probably w/ ol' AGP video slot), it's a dead-end and thus lost money.

a new desktop system isn't very expensive today, try to get one w/ a nVidia Quadro FX video sub system and Win XP Pro (downgrade) instead of Vista (because of mature OpenGL performance of video drivers) by e.g. Dell (check Precision series) or HP etc.

if you really wanna swap the video card of your current system, download the recent driver installation for the new card to your system before doing anything, then uninstall the recent video driver from the system control panel "Software" (w/ admin rigths preferred) before shuting down for ripping of the old card.

And be grounded before unwrapping the video card from the antistatic bag by e.g. touching the computer case and/or a blank pipe of the heating system etc.

hth,
Norbert

I am of course somewhat biased as we distribute the Punch! products here in the UK. However, if it were me I would purchase Shark LT instead of ViaCAD Pro. Not only does it have more functionality but the licensing arrangements are far more flexible, the consumer ViaCAD products are licensed per computer whereas the professional Shark products are licensed per user which allows installations on say a desktop and laptop.

All the best
Nick
