The issue with snaps when lines run almost parallel to the X, Y, or Z axes has been fixed. Some of the icons have been updated. The software is running very stable. Build 1918 was uploaded today.

How do you find the new builds when they are not shared here? Using this link will offer me build 1908, not 1918.

https://masterviacad.com/beta/beta.php

Thanks, Claus

I figure that out by trial and error. Just change the link—replace the old build number with the new one. I’m not allowed to post the links here. Maybe I’m not allowed to post the build numbers either, but as long as nobody complains, I’ll keep doing it anyway. I always check whenever there are new posts in the beta forum that I’m blocked from accessing. The indicator for new posts appears even though I don’t have access, and even if the indicator stops working, you can compare the number of posts from today with the number from yesterday.

Since I had the beta of v17 with a provided beta serial the purchased version opened with the beta registration. After contacting support I got the instructions how to clear the beta registration but on entering my new serial it was refused. It wanted my previous serial as well since it’s an upgrade but the combination is not working. Currently waiting for a reply from support but until then I’m locked out.

EDIT: Works now, my mistake.

Thank you, MPSchmied, for sharing the link to the press release. While it provides a helpful overview of the new features in SharkCAD/ViaCAD 17, I was specifically looking for official release notes—typically a detailed, versioned list of changes, bug fixes, and technical updates.
If such documentation exists but isn’t publicly available, I’d greatly appreciate any guidance on where to find it. Otherwise, I understand if Punch! Software doesn’t provide traditional release notes.
Thanks again for your assistance!

Hi GARLIC,

I've been following this, and was looking at the upgrade options from SharkCADPro V16 and I saw this...

what I don't like is we are in July, the software is macOS Tahoe compatible (Rosetta 2 is in this OS), and in September 2026 Mac OS Golden Gate will be released, and Rosetta 2 is not installed by default. As far as I know the pre Login Items are changing too as well as existing authentication plug ins, so it's probably likely that SharkCAD will fall over unless a patch is released. If there are any macOS users out there, I'd be extremely wary of updating your macOS if you want to continue to use SharkCAD, ViaCAD and I presume TurboCAD.

I have not seen any IMSI statements saying they have covered this or planning to in this upgrade.

Mike

Note from an old long time user:
I have for a long time tried to get an answer for a possible date for conversion of code into a universal version so I could get full use of my MBP M4max apple processor. But now a version 17 is released, still without a solution with the vague promise of an upgrade sometime in the future.

I have used this software originally develop by Tim Olsson since it was called "Concepts Unlimited". I have a snagging feeling that what we see now is just some cosmetic interface variations and a very steep upgrade price.

And instead of fixing the once good render module (lightworks), you are now supposed to shell out more money for this "Copilot pro" add-on? I find the upgrade price for SharkCADPro from v16 to v17 so expensive that I had thought this copilot thing was at least included in the upgrade cost, but apparently not. And the extra offer is a 20% rebate if you upgrade within this month. I would really like to see a much better offer!

I work with, and have people working for me, who are using anything from Inventor to Onshape and even the low cost Shapr3D (this low-cost solution is even based on the Parasolid kernel). Had I not been a 70 year old Naval Architect who is a bit unwilling to learn new tricks (new software) I might have left long time ago. Would I have bought SharkCAD starting over, - probably not.
Sorry for the rant, but IMSI could maybe be smart to at least keep its long time user base happy?
