Yes, but I have ViaCAD, not Shark. If you post a VC file of your curve primitives, I can see two or more ways of doing it other than rail sweep.

Hi Antoine,

This result from the 2 rail sweep is very bad. Such basic functions should work correctly, without this, then I cannot trust the application to correctly do any higher functions.

I am just creating a post to better explain my thoughts and findings.

I tried it with the Two-Rail Surface, as well, without much luck (in ViaCAD).

There should be no need to look for workarounds for this. On a 2 rail sweep the profile should retail the tangency to the rails, or at the very least there should be the option to retain tangency.

2-rail's a bust, but skinning between the two ellipses and thickening the surface created works fine - for this shape.

I have just spent the last 15 minutes or so putting together a post to report this bug in the beta section, when I finished and "submit reply" the forum logged me out and deleted the post. Even the forum software is a bit of a joke.

2 years :eek: I would personally of dumped the software and moved to a cad system that has basic functions working correctly.

Antoine, the only part of this file that gives any real pause for thought is the top surface. I drew two closed curves around the inner and outer upper vertices of the vertical profiles and skinned a surface between them. Then thickened that surface. The thickened solid's walls aren't vertical, but you can extrude the curves vertically to trim the solid. Trim the bottom of the solid with the world workplane. Now it's very late and goodnight!

Okay Antoine, here's your shape. The attached file shows how it was made. Two solid ellipses extruded, then the inner one subtracted from the outer. The top surface was made by extending the top lines of the profiles, then drawing inner and outer curves that overlap the body. A net surface made from those two curves, then thickened to solid, which is subtracted from the ellipsoid body. Lots of hoops to jump through, and things don't always work the way you'd expect - which is how we got here from birail sweeps. And bear in mind that VC doesn't have surface booleans, so I've had to take the long way around for some actions.
