Hi

(I’m trialing Affinity Designer)

Both Illustrator and Designer import a PDF as a picture - is this right ?

[Illustrator saved in a legacy format (v8) works fine as ever]

However when saved in a recent (PDF based?) format … and imported using the Illustrator 9+ option … only seems to come through as a ‘Picture'

Same with Designer (saved out as a PDF)

What am I doing wrong ?

Thanks

Jol

OK - EPS export from Illustrator or Designer should give me lines and splines I can use in 3D

However, it just flattens the data into a 'Picture'

Illustrator 9+ Import also does this ... which is wrong to my mind !

If I'm importing data from Illustrator 9+, I want to use that Illustrator data - not just see a 'Picture' of it !

(Importing data via Illustrator v8 or via DWG works fine of course)

Can we get vectors transferred via EPS ?

Can we label Illustrator 9 Import with ... 'Imports as flattened Picture' - so people can understand what it does

It's my understanding that PDF can carry vector lines and splines

Why can't I import lines and splines in a PDF file

... again, it gets flattened to a 'Picture'

I've had the same problem with Illustrator 9. Illustrator 8 usually works but is very slow importing. I usually export from Illustrator as DXF, using the latest option available. This will bring the vector info in to Shark.

I agree it would be nice to import vectors from pdf files. I usually save as Illustrator 3 and import that. But other vector illustration programs don’t export in ai format and I would love to loose Illustrator.
