Is there a method for combining multiple Bezier curves or lines into a single "group" before I can extrude it.

I know once I see it, it will be obvious, but I don't see how to do it. None of the videos extrude from a complex part (ie a combination ). I have don a Bezier curve that closes on itself in one action, it extrudes fine.

Help and thanks from a newbie :)

Thanks - That help!! the concept of LINES vs CURVES (Object types) was not apparent to me. as anyone seen a write-up on the concepts around Object types and the impacts on usage.
