The new magnetic function in version VC 10 is the most brillant invention after the wheels !!!

It offers such a lot of capabilities for me, I couldn't reach before or only with heroic efforts.

Many thanks to the team!!!

Can somebody explain the difference between mate face and the magnetic tool? To me it's the same thing...

Thanks, Claus

Hi Claus

Yes very similar with the differences below:

--In addition to mating normals, magnet positions using centers
--magnet works with other objects besides solids. i.e. you can place a curve profile on a face
--magnet is not associative
--option to make a copy

Hi Claus

this function is really helpful!

Try to join together 2 rectangular prism with predetermined solid faces. One of them is laying or standing on the workplane, the second is hanging in the air, turned over the X / Y-axis and over one edge of the body to the Z-axis.

With the gripper's help I was not successful over a half an hour, with the Magnetic-funktion that are onle 3 mouse-clicks - at the least to bring them to a parallel position.

the gripper has some similar functionality. try "object to axis"

first select the "main object". then switch gripper to "user positioned", choose "object to axis" and select the matching face of other object

... yes, but also it doesn't connect the two solid faces. There rested a stair . This pic is taken without gripper = planar . Or how to solve?

That was the real existing problem.
I had to cut out the 2 brackets and to turn them from the bottom to the top of frame without changing any messure. The right one to left side and the left one to the right side.
The bracket are not rectangular because the frame is bended on the right and left side with 2° outside.
At this times I was very new in VC 10 and unfortunately I don't know the function of the Magnetics which solve the problem very quick. Only some clicks are needed.

yes, one step is still missing. the faces are already aligned, but a translation step is necessary.

No, there is no chance for it. All distances, all angles are different. This frame is totally asymetric.

I have tried yesterday to solve it once more for my interesting and to learn and to train.
That is clear, only 2 clicks with the Magnetics is not sufficient. It needs a lot of preparing to reach the best result and yes, it needs also a stratetic planing of the steps to do it. The greatest effort is the proper cuting out of the brackets, but easy to turn them with the gripper. Just to this point it is nearly the same to work as using the gripper solution. But you don't need the very difficile adaptation to the angles, that will be managed by the Magnetics. It needs only a proper dimensioned solid face on the frame and on this place there were no changings, thats origin.
For the cut out I use the Infinite Plane and the Split Solid commands and at the end Add Solid to join all cuts together.
