will the "Join Curve" tool join two curves/line segments with a gap present?? if not, given the tool's name, does anyone have any ideas/thoughts on why a "gaps detected in curves error" is appearing after only selecting the tool and the interpolate spline shown in red?? the instructions in the user's guide seem pretty straight forward.................

It will display that error if the boundary curves don't form a closed loop.

Is it possibly a selection order issue? The first curves you select are the closed boundary curves. Then you pick the guide curve.

In example below green curves are boundary and blue is guide.

If that is not the issue, could you post the boundary and guide curve file?

Tim-

after completely redrawing the geometry, neither the Split Surface tool or the Guide Surface Cover tool are behaving as expected. the Split Surface tool is squawking about coincident points between the split curve and the boundary of the surface; error or feature?? the Guide Surface Cover tool now likes the closed curve input first (ie: the joined halves of two ellipses projected onto the surface), BUT it now sends TWO errors without regard to if one of straight green lines is selected as a guide or the spline is selected as the guide. first error is: cannot recognize a circuit and the second error message that appears on clearing the first: Invalid wireframe for cover surface. see attached image.

"post" how & where, the current file is 130Mb. I can copy the file and delete the "assumed" unrelated layers to get something smaller. my internet provider limits me to sending files ≤20Mb.......

Hi Art

Let's see if we can get just the curves used in the command.

1. Select only the curves you are using to create the cover with guide surfaces.

2. Select : Edit Copy

3. File : New

4. In the new drawing pick Edit : Paste

5. Save As new File.

Once you save the file, which should be very small, add this file as an attachment to a forum Post. On the left side of the reply is an option for "Attach files to this post"

Tim

Hi Art

In the example file you uploaded, I'm not sure what curves you are using for the boundary and what curves are guides. If this is still an issue would it be possible to provide an example that only has the boundary and guide curves?

If you are looking for some more info on Covers, I have some additional resources:

Hi Art

The Cover with Guides fails for this shape with the ACIS error message "Guide Curve projects outside circuit in advanced covering". The guide curve needs to project to a unique position within the boundary curves but cannot due to the convexity of the curves. So we cannot use a Cover with Guide with this geometry.

How about a skin surface? I segmented the projected ellipse and made a skin surface which is attached.

thanks. in spite of very public rumors and newspapers articles to the contrary, after going on three weeks (and two undocumented constraints & this TBD), it now appears the old guy hasn't completely lost it after all.............

ACIS "bug" or "undocumented feature" ??

or ACIS functions were never intended to work with concave boundary curves??

how about convex boundary curves?? or is the current tool only good for planar boundary curves?

as for two skin surfaces, I'll have to think about it. the "leading edge" as a minimum has to have a radius and after thirty seconds of thought I'm not sure how to go about that. two skin surfaces I'm guessing will yield a line (ie: sharp edge)...........

with curves on concave surfaces out, both alternate formulations have hit road blocks.

1.) is there any way to adjust/demand the Guide Cover Surface" tool observe both the supplied boundary curve and guide curve??

2.) are there setting(s) I'm missing on Skin/Loft tools that would eliminate the current bellows like results...............?
