That is awesome!!! Did you use Shark FX for the rendering?

Thanks Tim, no I used Blender as I did not understand the focal length/perspective setting in Shark, I will do a Shark one for comparison now that Bill has educated me about focal length.

Hi again Tim, I did a small test to get an idea of Sharks render capability (snowed in).

Programs like Blender are now using the GPU for rendering and it is much faster than the CPU, I used the car as a test subject to highlight the difference.
Blender car test, GPU = 49 seconds CPU = 7 minutes 36 seconds (Shark would take hours if the floor option was used).

The Gibson figures for Blender are GPU = 28 seconds CPU = 3 minutes 46 seconds.

Shark rendered the Gibson in 52 seconds Raytrace (shadows, anti-alias, Use anti-alias feature following) no floor option, quality and ease of material use was very good.
When I tried to use a drop shadow Shark would not complete the render, it got to 99% of the first pass and stayed like that, after 25 minutes of no action I had to force close Shark.

Not being able to abort a render with the escape key is a huge problem as Shark does not record the last save when it crashes or is forced to close.

I could not render the Gibson logo as it is an image, can Shark render images?

HI Craig, very nice.

I have a question concerning the Gibson lettering and Gibson Logo,
in what way it is applied to the guitar?
Is it a decal or a own part?

I want to use logos pictures etc. as new material, but I not been able to place a fitted logo.
Using decals is a problem with moving the object, the decal don't move in the same way.

Now i use DAZ Studio for rendering this is ok but i need ViaCad for modeling and drawing the floorplans
this is not really possible in DAZ Studio but also i think also in Blender and the Blender interface has put me off
to use it really :-(

Examples rendered with DAZ Studio

Thanks, the top image was rendered in Blender so it is an image imported as a plane in Blender, really simple.
The last image that you see above in my reply to Tim was rendered in Shark and that’s why there is no Gibson logo.
Blender can be off-putting but once you get the hang of it, it is a really powerful program, you should give it a real go as it is free and will always be free.
I struggled with Blender in the beginning but it is a lot more user friendly now and really fast, Shark for precision and mesh modelling, Blender for render and animation , a hard to beat combo now that Shark has organic modelling.

Nice work on your examples

Hi Craig

Render using a custom image as decal/logo

Render using a custom image as texture.

Hi Tim,

if i fitted a decal as a example to a cube and than translate or rotate the cube to another position
the decal isn't not on the original position of the cube.

Should that be so?

This is my biggest problem to use Viacad for renderings.
The quality would otherwise be sufficient to render floorpans with interior.

Thanks
Matthias

When you move or rotate the cube, do not have the decal selected. If if is not selected, then the decal will regen to the new position.

The Decal is associatively tied to the face by its uv position and normal.

If the decal is selected, you will rotate the decal to a new position.

From the video, it looks like the decal is selected which results in the cube and the decal getting transformed.

I should look into ignoring the decal if the parent is selected.
