Hello all, new user here.
I've been playing around for hours trying to achieve a quite simple task. I want to sit a circle (of an exact size) on the end of 2 previously drawn parallel lines - it needs to look like the outline of a lollypop on a stick when complete. There doesn't seem to be a simple way to do this, either with arcs or circles, as using the mouse isn't accurate enough and entering the radius/diameter from the keyboard either does not stick, or causes the arc/circle to move away from their intersection points, which defeats the object of putting them there. :confused: Other programs I've tried can do this easily, so I think I must be missing something - any ideas please?

Out of curiosity, what other programs have you been able to do this in more quickly?

Hi Martin.

I'm guessing that the other programs that you have found this easier to do on aren't ACIS based?

I would look at the video examples that came with the software, and take another look at the manual as well. Software like 3DS Max is much more immediate than VC, but then it is far less precise unless you start out at using a program like Autocad, and import that into 3DS. ViaCAD otoh, cuts out the need to use software like ACAD, which can make it a little more confusing to start with.

Stick with it, you'll get there in the end! :)

As a lollypop designer I thought I could help...
(I worked on ChupaChups fragrance packaging :p )
But I don't understand exactly what you are trying to create :confused:
Can you tell us a little more ?

Thanks for the replies.
I'm trying to create a keyhole shape whereby the 2 upright lines are drawn first and the arc (of an exact radius) is added after and intersects with the end of the lines precisely. The important points are that the length of the lines must not change and the radius of the specified arc must be precise - so using the mouse to define the radius is not accurate enough, the value needs to be entered from the keyboard. I hope this is a bit clearer than my first post.

Do you mean like the attachment ?

I make extra lines (in yellow), draw a circle with center on the middle of the top line, and diameter from keyboard.
Then trim and clean...

Does !t help ?

Thanks for your replies and going to the trouble of the making the mini tutorials to help me - it is much appreciated. I have also come up with a method which involves placing the centre of a circle of the required size on each endpoint of the lines and then placing the centre point of the required circle at the intersection of these 2 circles. This has given me perfect joins with the lines and allowed me to edit as required. Having said that, I still think this is more involved than it needs to be. Having said that, this program is only 50, so am I expecting too much?
