SLT V 8, SP 1

[[ edit: v8.0..0 Build 1003; no SP info present.]]

Tyring and trying to recreate this impeller:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=...ure=youtube_gdata_player

At time index 54 seconds.

Lathe Solid won't work, and Revolve Surface crashes SLT.

My model basic hub/core starts with 6 curves:

1. Top piece/horizontal curve (line),

2. Control point spline mimicing an arc

3. Vertical line downward from spline

4. Control point spline moving toward center/core/axis, with a slight "hook" downard

5. Small horizontal piece, smaller than at the top

6. Compulsory curve Lathe Solid demands; present for Revolve Surface.

I have not even tried the vanes yet.

When I use the Revolve Surface tool, I get "Lathe Axis Intersects Wire"

SLT then kinda jiggles, then throws up the "Shark has stopped working..." dialog box.

What gives?

JEEZ! "PERVERSITY OF THE INANIMATE" struck again.

I was about to upload a photo of my model when I notice the tool had another option. I was in "Two Point Revolved Surface". It repeatedly crashed.

Then, I clicked the option for "Curve Revolved Surface", and it worked.

I undid the revolve and reattempted the original method. It did not crash. now, either one works -- whether or not the session is not ended and restarted.

The crash was not repeatable because during the reconstruction of the crash attempts, I forgot to close the profile before using Revolve Surface.

Now, when the profile is closed (joined curves), SLT v8 crashes.

The Lathe Solid tool does not like open or closed profiles. Open profile produces "Gaps detected...". A closed profile produces:

"ACIS Error

! Self-intersection created by profile intersecting axis or crossing center of elliptical path.:Lathe_312" "OK"

Crash Dialog Box attached:

Hmm. Multiple attempts to attach the cam pic of the SLT crash dialog box refuse to upload. A reshot photo won't, and a direct camera shot won't.

...

Hmmm. Must've been the resolution due to the lens picking up too much detail at 2048 by xxxx

I did not model the smaller vanes. This is what I achieved.

Cam shots incl:

-- The early stage vanes and hub

-- Settings I used to polar duplicate the parts

An earlier missetting with the number of degrees produced a solid positioned with the parent, when I set 16 duplicates but it was at 45 vs 22.5.

Here are a few more crude, early stages of making the impeller.

Filleting at the intersection of the hub and inner side of the vanes is not working out so well, so maybe my original construction made bad bodies.

I revolved a surface to alter the shape of the outer edges of the impeller vanes.
