Hi All

Please use this forum to discuss PowerPack. PowerPack is an add-on to ViaCAD/Shark that adds tools for 3D Printing, mesh verification, repair, and some interesting tools that convert facets into precise solids. I will use this sticky to keep news regarding PowerPack's status.

IIRC, the Power Pack will be able to convert a type of polygon object to precise solids, another way to look at what it does is that it creates an enclosed volume consisting of mathematically precise surfaces.

A client of mine asked if there was a way to analyze wall thicknesses on an organic model. Could the wall thickness tool be used to find wall thickness values? Maybe even a threshold that I could define where colors could be used to show the regions on a part that are too thin or too thick? Thanks!

My methodology with tools available now would be to change a copy of the solid to surfaces, thicken/shell the outer surface and intersect that with another copy of the solid. That ought to show how consistent it is, and passing a few sections through the original will illustrate what thickness was intended.

Hi Mike
You would need to convert JT into something ViaCAD could import. Since JT is a generic facet file, you would probably use the [URL="http://www.masterviacad.com/powerpack/page9/page20/page20.html"]Mesh To Analytic[/URL] tool to convert into a precise solid.

I believe netfabb only works with facets. There are no tool to convert into a precise analytic or [URL="http://www.masterviacad.com/powerpack/page9/page36/page36.html"]NURB[/URL] solid.

Another tool I like if you just need mesh repair is [URL="http://www.meshlab.org"]MeshLab[/URL], which is free. Meshlab has some interesting tri to quad tools as well as facet reduction tools.

Yes PowerPack will be available for ViaCAD Pro. It will be bundled as part of a speical 64 bit version of Pro.

Thank you very much Tim. Also need to know how to migrate my ViaCAD Pro V9 from one computer to another as I was one of the early upgrades and the was no way to make a back up copy at that time. Looking forward to the 64 Bit ViaCAD Pro as it will make some of the large facet count models much easier to work with (over 1M facets in many of the models). -Michael

Tim,

Have a few bugs to reports on the 64bit PC version of ViCAD Pro with PowerPack. I know that some of the reporting protocols have changed. Please would you or a member of the team either repost them here or send me an e-mail so that I can get you folks back the feed back data. I will say the working with it on the new to me Lenovo D20 does get rid of pretty much any waiting for process to get done or unfortunately to go wrong.

So far looking good just the normal bugs that always pop up and need us users to break in order to find them to fix them.
