In Viacad 2D/3D, how do you turn off the 8-sided grid that goes around a point light source? It looked like Edit/Show points was supposed to turn it off, but that doesn't seem to make a difference.

Thanks!
Mark

There hasn't been any reply to this message, and I'm still wondering. It occurred to me that no one knows what I'm talking about. So I've attached a drawing showing the light. The light is surrounded by a grid showing the arrows. The help file says I should be able to toggle those arrows off by using "Show Points" (Control-D). But toggling this switch makes no difference.

Thanks,
Mark

Hi jol,

Its supposed to be a point source of light, which I'm using to give the effect of an illuminated LED. The effect works -- except for the guide-line grid which I don't want at the moment.

Is there some other way to make light appear to be coming from an object?

Thanks!
Mark

Try to use area light instead

choose area light on the light palet, then select the object to be used as a light source

I'm not sure that ViaCAD has 'area' lights Luis (!?)

Photoshop afterwards - would be the other answer

There are area lights. They aren't described in the user guide. You access them and 2 other non-described lights from a drop-down in the Inspector for the light.

Unfortunately, all of the lights have the associated light "guides", and no setting seems to be able to turn off that feature.

Thanks,
Mark

As I mentioned, there are several lights available from the inspector, but as far as I could tell they all had the "guides" attached.

Thanks,
Mark
