If you are using model to sheet in ViaCAD all curves and circles are polylines not precise lines. Only Shark has precise lines in model to sheet.

So in order to get good results I must use Shark? Even if I export to another higher quality CAD application using a defacto standard file system? Great. :(

That would hardly make say ViaCAD Pro "Pro" would it? If you're going to design an aeroplane, make sure you don't design it using an application named as a "pro" app, otherwise it may just fall apart after taking off!? lol!

Would it not be better to allow precise curves to be exported with a dwg, but not be available if working straight out of printing from the more consumer versions of the application?

I'm not sure if I quite follow you here Tom, but if you export your dwg/dxf from ViaCAD to Shark and do a Model to Sheet there, it will be created with precise curves from the precise curves within the file.

Only the Model to Sheet parts in ViaCAD get chopped up in to polylines, everything else stays precise in the export, I think.

You might change resolution on preferences option on auto cad also, in mac, auto cad 2012 /autocad/preferences/document settings

this have option to set resolutions for polylines, arc and circles as well as 3d elements.

BTW, i openend in eDrawings a DWG exported file from shark, and the resolution display is fine, at least for me, see the attached img.

Luis, I did up the display prefs on Autocad as well, but no change. (Change in what Autocad created, yes, but no change over what ViaCAD exported- unfortunately).

Martin, The actual solid data is exported as high quality, but not the vector information it seems.

Correct. The model to sheet tool in the ViaCAD products creates polylines. We do some limited checks if the polyline is a hole and convert back to a circle.

Shark licenses the CATIA V5 PHL 3D to 2D technology to create the 2D drawings. This technology creates precise curves. This technology component has some additional license fees and restrictions from Dassault that prohibit us from putting into ViaCAD.

No it's not that simple and that is not what I meant. ViaCAD output is excellent.
If the geometry is drawn it outputs precise lines it's only the 3d to 2d conversion that is polylines so just draw the views u need and you will have precise output.
