What they're offering is upgrade parts for Reprap-style/Makerbot 3D printers. If you do buy them, you're going to need a machine to fit them to.

I am in the process of designing a 3D printer (open source), and backed that kickstarter project with hours of its announcement. The extruder is intended to be a bolt in replacement for the MakerBot Replicator (the design is based on the extruder that that machine uses), but they are also intended to work on a Prusa. There is no reason why they wouldn't work on any printer that has a moving X carriage, and I expect that by the time they are shipping there will be a bunch of mounts available on Thingiverse.

Hello Nick,
I am a member of Thingiverse community and I checked for some times the opportunity to buy a 3D printer. The Ultimaker (http://blog.ultimaker.com/) is very interesting with a volume of - 8"x 8"x 8". (about $1,600) (ABS - PLA)

Also the solidoodle with a volume of 6"x 6"x 6" for $599. (ABS)(PLA??)

Interesting,

Only problem I see is that every 3D printer I have looked into creates a product that is semi porous and as such is not suitable for what I produce as it it would add steps to the production cycle. That and High speed on a 3D printer is 1.08m/min. My Gantry router cuts the plastics I use for production at 2.25m/min with rapids of 4.25m/min and acceleration of over 850mm/secsq.

It is interesting idea but is a very long way off from truly useful production. To many additional steps to have a useful product. Now if it was possible to get past the porous problem and keep tolerances in the .01mm, then I would be very interested.

Of course they're only really there for prototyping. Getting an idea of what the product will look like before you go to tooling. BTW, I'd love a decent router too!... saving my pennies....
