I have been having a longer look at this.

First, from the help file:-
Quote:
A guide skin surface is identical to a skin surface with the addition of an unlimited number of edge guide curves. The guide curves control the surfaces edge shape between the skin sections.

This is to me in contradiction with itself:- "unlimited edge guide curves."? How many edges does a skin have? we are looking at 4, 2 of which are taken by the end profiles, so 2(two)

I have made a simple example:-
Pic 01 shows 3 cross sections to be controlled by 3 guides, but the outcome is not expected (see other pics) unless I go back to the fact the surface as only 2 edges that can be controlled via the guides.
To me this is simply a multi cross section 2 railed sweep.

I can easily build this surface, so I am not looking for a way to create, just an explanation of "Skin with unlimited edge guides".

Update.

As I cannot see how this is anything like the description, I have gone back to basics. I have looked at the example in the manual.

There is a pic showing a skinned surface, then the same skin with one and then 2 guide curves (pic skin01)

I created curves/guides similar to the example to check results.

Pic test01. Shows the normal skin with no guides. OK.
Pic test02. Shows the curve with one guide added (as in example)
Pic03/ Pic04. shows results, nothing like the example in the user manual. I did try different settings, but no luck
Pic05. Shows the curves with 2 guides added.
Pic06 shows result. Again, nothing like the example in the manual.

Maybe I am missing something here. But I cannot find a way to make the output even remotely match what is shown in the user guide.

Hi Steve

I seem to be able to add guides and it seems to be working fine.

Hi Jason,

Something changed in the builds?

I only have Pro build 831, I see you have build 833.

I will load your model into Pro831 and check.

The guide curves need to go precisely through the skin sections. We need to add an error message to inform users when this happens as ACIS will ignore the guide otherwise. Here is a QT movie showing the results.

FYI, I converted some of the curves to interopolate so I can move a point directly on the curve to the skin.

Hi Jason,

The results from your curves/guides are not the same in Pro.

Tim,

OK, I will re-check.

Has there been any change to this between builds 831 and 833, because the curves from Jason do not give the same result?

Jason,

2d/3d does not have skin with guides. How did you construct in 2d/3d?

I deleted your surfaces then used those curves to build in Pro 831, and the result was not the same.

Oh, Ok I just loaded in 2d/3d and added points and moved the curves and they rebuilt, not from scratch. I though you meant they did not load correctly. What do they do when you try to recreate?

I just looked at my original model and the top guide is a control spline which I did not make. I alway construct added guides from Interpolate, unless using nets in other apps which produce G2 surface from just about anything.

I need to look more at this.

Even on bad days I do not make a mistake between curve constructs. hmmm,
