Ok, how about this one Tim ..

- extrude a solid made from 4 straight lines

- delete the solid .. gone !

- now move one of the lines

Uh - oh !

Why does it say .. "ACIS Error, Stitching Failed" ?

As a user, I say to myself .. "Lordie .. I don't remember stitching anything"

I see in the feature tree, CU has generated a 'profile' from which to extrude

But in deleting the solid, it has forgotten about the profile

When I go to move a line, I can't .. because the rules that bind an entity I didn't even create

Now, in this case .. it's easy (for me) to rectify - but what if it was a line in a complex piece of geometry. Well, it'll probably regenerate for 10 minutes .. give you a stitching error and then re-un-generate for 10 minutes. If you've made complex models in CU, you'll know this all too well !

Because you're a designer and not a software engineer, you're not in the least interested in Vulcan logic .. but in 'design intent' .. and so prolly don't get why you can't move your line.

State of confusion ensues

Worse still for learners !

I'd suggest that if a solid is deleted, any feature tree additions made by CU should be removed by CU.

If a 'profile' has no forward association with any user generated body .. it shouldn't be there at all !

Now, I've raised this point many times before .. and I've never even had an answer.

So please, let's have an answer to this !

Further ..

If you move this line with the move tool, you get a situation where the 'profile' that CU generated is 'broken' (gets a little cross through it in the feature tree)

I know from experience that that means my links are in need of resolution

However, try "Resolve Links' .. and you'll find you're at a dead end !

ACIS Error "Stitching failed" .. ad infinitum

Again, in this case .. easy to move on .. but in a complex model .. you'd probably dump it and go to last your autosave at this point

Yup, you're right. Try it in the build 734, where I track down that profile and delete it if nothing else is using it.

Well done Tim .. I think that will reduce the number of unexplained weirdnesses that happen when you simply move a line in a complex model - and get an inexplicable regen / unregen
