My decals are showing up on both sides of my parts. Is there a setting to change this? This happens with the decals from the library with no special settings.

Thanks in advance,

I also think it's time we added such a setting

In reality, you are highly unlikely to want decals as they are - and much more likely to want a decal to sit only ON a face

Sorry for the silly question, but what exactly is a decal? I'm not American and I think that decal must be an American word- as I never hear it used in England. (oddly enough, I have a record by Captain Beefheart called "lick my decals off baby"- so whenever I see this word I think of that! LOL!)

Hi Tom,
You will probably get a lot of replies, but I might be first!!!
The reference by our friends 'over there' to decals applies to what you probably know as water-slide transfers, or whatever name they go by in Blighty.
Regards, Ian.

Anytime you want to put a graphic on an object in Shark you use a decal. You can make your own (it is the only kind I have ever used). Generic ones are in the rendering library. You place these, modify them to your own graphic, and zap, a happy client! Nick has a fantastic video on how to make your own somewhere on the forum.

Another question. What was the max size (in dpi) for a decal? I can't remember and don't have the patience to experiment. Does anyone remember this off the top of their head?

Thanks in advance,

Art

In this case, as I understand it from the French, it's a "decalcomanie" = a non permanent tattoo on the skin.
Lickable.

Art,
I don't know if there is a maximum size for decals, its probably limited by available memory.

I tend to do them at 300dpi plus, and just looked at one that I used a while back that is 7056 X 965 pixels / 19.5mb

I posted a rendering that included it here: http://forum.punchcad.com/showthread.php?t=1417

Good point Art !!

The manual should clearly state what the max dims and resolution are for decals

Right now, 803 is not opening the manual for me - just a fail tone

We kept the 5.5 installer size down pre 803 (no manual or videos). 804 should have them.

Sorry no. We're continuing to find away around this. Until we figure something out, you can offset a face zero (or really small) distance and apply the decal to the surface.

Thanks for the reply. I have noticed that when I have a decal that is large that does not work, if I reduce the overall size, it works.

So is there a max size or is it a dpi issue?

Another thing, is there anyway to adjust decals besides using the cursor? I would like to be able to use the "move" command or the arrow keys but the decal "disconnects" from the object and has to be "re-placed"

Also (since I have your attention) when are we going to be able to query an item for rendering settings? I am getting tired of cutting and pasting successful material settings.

Thanks in advance,

Art
