hi there guys..
using viacad 2d/3d and im already angry as hell with some things
im ataching a simple scene, where one can see two curves. to the left is the original one im trying to cut to size, and to the right another one i made just clicking around. I can trim the second but the first not . i tried all kinds of trim options, and read and reread that part on the manual, but it simply doesnt work...

im running into lots of problems trimming curves. Can someone just tell me why the right curve works and the left not??? tried Trim, corner trim, and nothing works.... i will be using the full curve later, so i just want to make a smaller curve, with exactly the same curvature

thanks in advance

the original curve and the trimming object must be in the same height.. now it just works fine. why nobody show this in the manual?? its a so obvious thing to nurbs modelers???

You can't trim the one on the left because it doesn't sit at the same height (Z) as the circle it crosses. Check it with the front or side view.

Cheers.

No,
What you are seeing is a limitation on a trim to apparent intersection. It does work for lines (current beta build) but not for splines etc. I though a request/suggestion had been made for a possible improvement.

How about this:

Select project curve to plane. Holding the shift select the curve, then the center of the circle. The curve is duplicated in the same plane as the circle. Now you can trim the circle.

Hi bradcan,

There are various workarounds, the projection you mention being one, but that itself is limited to having to have one of the curves planer and sitting on the workplane.
When for example you have 2 curves/splines that are non-planer in 3d space, then that would not work. You can extrude a surface from the cutting curve down an axis to intersect the curve to cut, but would hope for some improvement for the apparent intersection in VC/shark.

I'd like to see the trim to apparent intersection improved too! :D
