Dunno what's going on here, but I'm having trouble rotating these parts.
When ever I spin them 90 degrees, it throws off these little parts and screws everything up.

process of design:
I made a 2D drawing of parts
I then used 'covered surface'
I used the push/pull to bring them to thickness
then rotate them 90 degrees (with gripper)
These little parts only appear AFTER I rotate the parts.

What's causing that to happen?
And how do I stop it from happening?

Well, I saved my work and just came back to it, to find this!
the parts are scattered all over the place, and I can not select
the lined items, but I can select the solid ones.

What causes this?!
Its so frustrating :(

That's really bad. Something is causing it and its not at all clear why that is happening. I have an idea, don't use the Gripper to move parts around, instead use the Move/Translate and Rotate tools. Good luck!

You are making life far too complicated for yourself.

select each of the 2D drawings in turn with the extrude tool and set the thickness in the data box and you will have a much more robust solid.

Uhm... dunno why, but I am subscribed to my thread here, but didn't get any notifications on it...

I'll try some of your suggestions.
I'm still learning the basics, and these problems make it so frustrating to learn.
Every version of Viacad I've had has always given me this problem. (This is my #1 issue with this software)

I *think* my workflow is right(it makes sense to me?)

Bill, could you explain a little further what you mean?

If you guys open my file, does it come up in pieces for you?

Ah, so I don't have to 'Surface' first!
Alright, Will start doing that. Thanks.

This is a bug related with the gripper, for some reason moving, turning or scaling an object with the gripper some times result at this point,

On my experience, Selecting the part and forcing resolve links most of the times resolve this issue.

To force resolve links select the part, then the "features" tab on concept explorer, right click on listed name part and the select "force resolve liks" on popup menu

OMG!
Thank you for this!
it *SEEMS* to have fixed the rotation issues!

Without the gripper, its harder to move things into location.
(need more practice I guess!)

I use the gripper only to rotate very simple parts.
As soon as the part is a little complex, it is a risk because I can't be sure of the rotation axis...
When the solid has a tiny non-symmetric feature (a hole or rib on one side), the rotation is offset.
It is safer to rely on the rotation tool !

Well, this is the FIRST time that I have made any serious progress with this program :)

I've been plagued with that damn bug since day one
I always kept upgrading, HOPING it was fixed... WOW is all I can say

So the other "FEATURES" of the gripper are safe to use?
(Just not the rotate?)

Next task will be figuring out the rendering!

You guys have been great with helping me out in this thread, I thought I would continue here instead of making a new thread.

My question is with positional data.

When first making a block, your given the options to enter X, Y, Z co-ords, and L, W, H.
But if I click off the block and then reselect it, the X, Y, Z locating entry areas do not reappear.
But if I create a cylinder(or any other solid) the X, Y, Z areas are there (Please see picture below)

Am I missing something? Why do they disappear?
