Hi

My Version is ViaCAD V8.0.0 Build(984) on Win Vista Home

The Problem i have happens verry often. I save a file in .VC3 i do also export the content do dxf. I need to send the files to a laser factory. But what happen is that when i re-open the file (not always) i do have the drawing twice. One is realy big and the smal one is the original. Now the problem i have is if i send the files to the laser factory i may get the wrong parts. What can i do? If i control it it is ok. If i do control it the next time it's wrong. And sometime it happens that it coppies the drawing, without me doing something in this direction (copy). That realy scares me. Can someone please help me. Thanks

This has never happened to me, but looking at your picture it would seem that the large version is 25.4 times as large as the small one i.e. metric vs imperial units.

Are you doing some kind of scaling operation before you export the file?

Hi Martin,

I'm not sure what would cause that. If you have some steps to repeat that would be great.

You might want to send an email off to tech support and ask for the latest build at [email protected]. I don't recall fixing that but there are some other fixes that may be useful.

I do no scaling. All my drawings are 1:1 in mm.

@Tim

I try to reproduce it.That should be no problem. But as fare what i'm doing:

I have 3 files (lets name them A, B and C)

- Copy a part from drawing in A
- open an new file B and past the drawing
- Select all and do an ungroup
- compact option, purged deleted and remove history
- rename Layer1 to xyz
- select all and do group
- change selected objects to xyz and name the object (in Attributes)
- export to dxf (R12, selected only)
- save file to B
- select all copy
- open C past (do some work in C)
- go back to B close B
- reopen B and there it is.


If it helps, i can mail you the whole files.

Hi,

obviously, Tim is the expert in this, but I do know that dxf's indeed cause scaling issues very often. The dxf file format simply has no way of storing the units. I've seen numerous examples of this issue with all kinds of CAD systems.

Here is how it goes:


- Copy (Edit - Copy) a part from an existing drawing
- open an new file and past (Edit -Past) the drawing
- Select all
- export to dxf (R12, selected only)
- save the file (.vc3)
- close the file
- reopen it and there it is.

so from my point of view the problem happens when exporting to DXF without doing a save before.

I don't have ViaCAD 2d/3d, but I can't get it to repeat on the the ViaCAD Pro beta v1009, so I wonder if this might have been fixed in a later build.

If you do get a problem with scaling from a wrongly imported dxf file, it's quite easy to fix (works in both 2 and 3D). This same rule also applies with the scale command in QCad. Works just as effectively in ViaCAD/Shark...

Scale tool;

reference line = 50mm (example)
First determine the width of the entity you wish to modify by selecting it and then by using the 'info' tools (measure point to point) or from the geometry info in the property editor.

To scale down

1. I have a line or entity of width 145.8mm long:
In the Scale options dialog box - enter in the factor X field - 50/145.8/1
Press enter - job done.

To scale up

2.I have a line or entity of width say 34.5667mm long, and I want to scale up to 87.432mm width:
In the scale options dialog box - enter in the factor X field - 87.432/34.5667
Press enter - job done.

Hello

The problem i have now is: I've done a cad2cam (with PyCam) with some of my dxf's and some show the same problem. :mad: . So now i have to recreate all my dxf and check them with PyCam in order to give them to the lasercompany.

the way i've done it is still the same:

generate a DXF before saving the drawing.
