I thought it would not be a difficult task, but apparently it is... I'm trying to make a bent, wavy roof, but which every tool in the Plane or Solid section I use, it always comes up with an error (and the occasional crash) and I can't figure it out. If I use the One Rail Sweep Surface tool and select only one "wave" (conic) as a rail, it works. But of course I want to use all the conics to create the roof, but that doesn't work.

I would say it probably is doable with one Arc and one wave rail, but who can tell me how to do this?

Thanks for listening!

You have to group one series of conics on one side and use the the two rail sweep surface. ONe thing about this is that the orientation of the surface edges at the series of conics will follow the slope of the rail.

I noticed you have the series of conics in a world plane. Did you meant to make the conics tangent to the two rails, i.e., the opposite long conics?

Ah, that worked! Thanks! I really have to look from different sides, because this made so much sense. I actually did group the conics before, but I used it as a rail, not the start point.

I don't know what you mean with "world plane", but if I understand it correctly, my answer above about the start point is answering your question?

You need to look at the jpg I attached. Notice the dark lines which are the series of conics and directed along the z axis. The edges of the surface end short to the vertical axis Z.

If this doesn't matter, then you are set.

I always want to learn, that's why I asked. But I got the result I wanted. With the Thicken Solid tool I made it a roof. Only have to cut of the edges on the wavy sides, as they bend as in a twirl.

Mouche, I think this gives a different result versus the two sweep rail surface.

Note that your approach deforms the overall shape like pushing down on the roof. It is a different approach that's for sure.

Nice idea, but I don't have that third tool you are using in ViaCad 2D/3D. I see you're using Shark, so it's not the same.

I realise suddenly that I also could have used the Join Curve Tool to connect all conics. It would have been one part and I would have succeed very quickly, as there was no need to make it a group. It is also a better solution, as the would be no issue with the flow of the connection.

I think your nice conics would turn into an interpolate spline. Joining or not, you can always use the chain select or just drag select.
