Apparently there is a story behind Viacad, something about a connection between Ashlar Vellum... Does any know the story, and can you share? ;) Mike...

Mike,
I'm preparing a post about the entire history of the product.
Short version:
In 1995 I licensed the drafting assistant from Ashlar for CADD Pro, CSI's first ACIS based modeler. We extended the DA to work with surfaces and solids. Ashlar liked CADD Pro which resulted in us signing a 6 year OEM. Between 1996 and 2003 we privated labeled CADD Pro which was sold as Vellum Solids and later Neon, Argon, Zenon and Cobalt.
In 2003 we licensed Ashlar a copy of the source code whereby they started a development team internally. We went our own direction with the Concepts products and ultimately were acquired by Punch who rebranded as ViaCAD and Shark.
We also private labeled the IMSI TurboCAD Mac products which ended with the V3 product.
